Winter's gentle snow, A Japanese mother's love, In each soft footfall
Mama Yumi smiled, her hands stilling on the chopsticks. "What kind of treasure, my little ones?"
Akira pulled out a small, glinting stone from his winter cloak. "Behold, a snow-erased river pebble! Grandfather told us stories of the ancient waters' secrets." Emiko giggled, her hands clasped together, as if hiding a secret. In the kitchen, Mama Yumi's thoughts drifted to her own childhood winters. The sacred mountains surrounding Sakura had seen her mother's family, the Yoshitos, for generations. She remembered playing in the snow, listening to her mother's whispers about the mythical creatures of the forest. Mother Nature's power stirred something within Mama Yumi, a longing to share those stories with her own children.
