The Eternal Moment
A Tale of Time, Memory, and the Ephemeral Nature of Reality
It was a sweltering August morning in 1860 when French photographer Henri Beato snapped the shutter on his camera, capturing a moment that would change the course of history. Standing on the rooftop of the Yangtze River, Beato gazed out upon the mighty city of Shanghai, its pagodas and temples rising like sentinels from the mist-shrouded landscape. As he clicked the lens, a fleeting thought crossed his mind: this moment was eternal, suspended in time like a droplet of water suspended in mid-air.
