The Shadow of the Seine
A Tale of Murder, Deception, and the Dark Side of the City of Light
It was a bitterly cold winter's evening in 1885, and the City of Light was shrouded in darkness. The Seine River, once the lifeblood of Paris, now flowed sluggishly through the frozen streets. Amidst the frost-covered buildings and twinkling gas lamps, a chill crept over the souls of the inhabitants. The city was alive, but it was a melancholic existence. In a cramped, smoke-filled café on the Quai de Gesvres, a man named Étienne Carder sat huddled in a worn, black greatcoat, his eyes fixed on the flickering candle flame. His thoughts were consumed by the events of the day.
