A Tale of Obsession, Deception, and Ephemeral Art
It was a chilly autumn evening when Chihiro Shimizu, a renowned art historian, received an unexpected invitation from the enigmatic collector, Henry Lee. Lee, known for his reclusive nature and penchant for the obscure, requested Shimizu's expertise to appraise his latest acquisition: a rare 17th-century Chinese painting. As Shimizu arrived at Lee's sprawling estate, nestled among the Pekingese mountains, he sensed an aura of secrecy surrounding the gathering. Upon entering the estate, he was greeted by the soft glow of lanterns and the faint aroma of incense. Lee, resplendent in a traditional kimono, welcomed Shimizu with an air of detachment.
