Alabaster mortar, Late Cypriot III, ca. 1200–1050 B.C., Cypriot, Gypsum alabaster, Overall: 1 1/2 in. (3.8 cm); Diam. 4 1/4 in. (10.8 cm), Miscellaneous-Stone Vases, Mortars such as this were more often made of steatite or andesite. They would have been used with a pestle for the grinding of pigments, medicines, or spices.
