Alexander the Great cuts the Gordian knot, finds in the temple of Jupiter until Gordien the chariot to which the knot was tied, wrote of it, who would then own the whole world without doing so, promising with his sword overmidt, Alexander the Great stands in the middle, about to cut the Gordian knot in half. The god Jupiter sits on a platform on the left. After Alexander the Great had captured the city of Gordium, he came to the temple of Jupiter where Gordias' chariot was located. The drawbar of the wagon was tied with a complicated knot. According to an oracle, whoever could untie the knot would rule all of Asia. Alexander is unable to loosen the knot, after which he cuts it with his sword. Numbered top right: 21.
