Amazon or Scythian archer, Bronze, cast, Bronze, Total: Height: 9.6 cm, Small sculptures/small works of art, Three-dimensional sculptures, Amazons, Cavalry, cavalry, cavalry troops, archery (game, sport), Peoples and nationalities, Antiquity, The small figure belonged to the lid decoration of a bronze vessel (Lebes), as found in Campanian tuff box graves of the 5th century AD Century v. Chr. were found. It is a local work, which was created under Greek influence. The figure depicts a riding Amazon turning to the left and shooting an arrow at her pursuer; horse and bow are lost. The Amazon is dressed with a short, belted chiton and wears a pointed cap with neck guard, under which the hair combed into the forehead is visible. On her back hangs the flat quiver, the opening below the left shoulder. Two diagonal lines on the chest side indicate the hanging. K. A. Neugebauer and Herbert Hoffmann consider the figure more like a Scythian.
