Annunciation to the shepherds by choirs of angels. In the dark night, the shepherds, sitting around a fire, are startled by choirs of angels in a brightly lit cloudy sky. They proclaim the birth of Christ: in the bottom center an angel with a pennant on which the text GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO, PAX HOMINIBUS BONAE VOLUNTATIS. Above him nine angels sing the GLORIA... together. Each angel has a banderole with the music notation of his part in his hands. The music is by the Flemish composer Andreas Pévernage (1543-1591), who created the motet especially for this print. His name is mentioned on banderole VI and IX.
