Box of an Anthropoid Coffin, New Kingdom, Ramesside or later, Dynasty 20–21, ca. 1186–945 B.C., From Egypt; Said to be from Upper Egypt, Thebes, Wood, paint, L. 191cm (75 3/16 in.); w. 54 cm (21 1/4 in.); d. 31 cm (12 3/16 in.), The figures on the interior of this finely decorated wooden coffin from the Ramesside or early Third Intermediate Period are painted in a detailed, colorful style very like contemporary painted tombs. In the center of the box interior stands the deified King Amenhotep I in the guise of the mummiform Osiris attended by a priest in a panther skin, a human-headed-bird (presumably the spirit of the coffin's owner), and a crouching mourning woman
