Cartoon on the Theater Battle, ca. 1685, Cartoon on the Poet Pluimer. Casteleijn van de Schouburg (title on object), Cartoon on the mismanagement of Joan Pluimer and Govert Bidloo, who were regents of the Amsterdam Theater from 1679 to 1681 and tenants from 1681 to 1687. In the center is Pluimer with a feather on his head, a goblet of liquor in his hand and a lyre under his arm. In front of him a servant with a pie in the shape of a deer. To his right an old man raises a stick towards him. In the left foreground a sad personification of the Amsterdam Theater with a beehive in her hand, to her left the muse Melpomene. In the right foreground, a deceased man (possibly the co-tenant Pieter de la Croix, who died in 1687) is robbed of his pall by a man with a beret on his head and a money box under his arm (probably Bidloo). A dog-eared audience walks through the dilapidated arch to the theater but is chased away by Apollo. Apollo stands in front of a gate with the portraits of Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft, Joost van den Vondel and Gerbrand Adriaensz on the left, from top to bottom. Bredero. Behind it the satyr Marsyas tied to a tree. In the very background Pegasus on Mount Parnassus., print maker: Bernard Picart, after design by: Romeyn de Hooghe, Amsterdam, 1716 - 1738, paper, etching, engraving, height 139 mm × width 184 mm, print
