Chest, The Amsterdam Chest, Large chest with a flat lid, provided on all sides with rich decorations in lacquer work. On the front and the short sides figures in a landscape are depicted, the lid contains a similar depiction encased in a large cartouche; on the back two blossom branches are depicted against a black background. The technique used is maki-e, a mixture of gold powder in different colors and different degrees of fineness, with some inlay in mother-of-pearl. The representations on the lid and on the sides are always framed with broad decorative bands. The hardware on the plinth and the lid, the handles and the lock plate are of chiseled copper.
