Zell's instruments are characterized by a richness of sound and magnificent artistic design. The lacquer paintings with representations from ancient mythology as well as the chinoiseries popular at that time make the musical instruments at the same time precious pieces of furniture with which wealthy Hamburg music lovers could show their love of culture. Only three of Christian Zell's valuable instruments are still preserved today.
