Condemnation of Haman, Theodoor King, after Jacobus Buys, 1780, In a room under a drapery, Queen Esther and the Persian King Ahasuerus condemn Haman, kneeling before them, to the gallows. Haman was one of Ahasuerus' highest officials and a great enemy of the Jews. He had prepared a murder of all the Jews in the Persian Empire, for which Ahasuerus had given him permission. Esther, the king's wife, thwarted the plan and Haman and his sons were hanged.
