David Octavius Hill (1802-1870), Edinburgh 1843-1848, Reverend Dr. Thomas Chalmers, Theologian, preacher and social reformer, born March 17, 1780 in Anstruther, died May 30 in Morningside, Studied from 1795 to 1798 in St. Petersburg Andrews Theology, Mathematics, Philosophy and Chemistry, became Licentiate of the Scottish, Church in 1799 and in 1803 assistant to Professor Vilant at the chair, of the University of St. Andrews, since 1828 at the University of, Edinburgh, 1843 to 1847 professor at the Free Church College, in Edinburgh. In 1843 Chalmers resigned from the Scottish State Church, took over the chair of the first Synod General, of the newly founded Free Church and worked as Pastor primarius, for the new church community and its organization until his =, nem death.
