Design for Stuart Monument, Giuseppe Barberi, Italian, 1746–1809, Pen and brown ink, brush and brown wash on lined off-white laid paper, The scheme and the sarcophagus are variations of 1938-88-1296. The design begins below with the sarcophagus. The pedestal has a base, above which rise three steps and a short pedestal on top. Upon the steps sit two crowned women, the left carrying a shield or a medallion and a mace, the right one something indistinct. Beside the left lie fasces beside the right, probably a helmet. On top kneels the king with extended arms upon a cushion, seen from the front. Over the figure is partly drawn another suggestion: a kneeling winged genius at left supports together with a standing putto at right the oval medallion. The putto carries in his left hand a laurel branch. On top is the upper part of a dlying putto supporting the crown with his raised hands. The framing parts of the columns are sketched., Rome, Italy, 1793, architecture, Drawing, Drawing
