Dish with a folded rim, First Intermediate Period, Dynasty 9–10, ca. 2100–2010 B.C., From Egypt, Fayum Entrance Area, Sidmant el-Gebel (Sedment), Pottery, hematite wash, Diam. 16 cm, This dish of Nile clay covered all over with a red pigment has a rim folded inwards in five places. Stone dishes with inward-folded rims appear as early as the First Dynasty and would seem to derive from pottery prototypes, though examples in pottery are very rare before the First Intermediate Period
