According to popular custom, they were eaten on New Year's Eve or New Year's morning to ensure the hoped-for fertility for the coming year. The pastry was prepared especially at weddings. The edible little children were decorated on the bride's cake or directly incorporated into the wedding cake. With this gift the bride was wished the greatest possible abundance of children.
