Gable-topped Linen Chest, New Kingdom, Dynasty 18, early, ca. 1492–1473 B.C., From Egypt, Upper Egypt, Thebes, Sheikh Abd el-Qurna, Tomb of Hatnefer and Ramose (below TT 71), 1935–36, Wood, gesso, L. 69.5 cm (27 3/8 in.); W. 36 cm (14 3/16 in.); H. 44 cm (17 5/16 in.), Th. 1 cm (3/8 in.), This rectangular box with a gable-shaped lid was whitewashed inside and out. Two v-shaped battens on the underside of the lid hold it in place when closed. The bottom fo the chest was originally fitted with four short L-shaped legs, but one of these was missing (now restored)
