Genealogy of the Lords and Counts of Culemborg, Illustrated manuscript of the genealogy of the Lords and Counts of Culemborg, Manuscript bound in embossed pigskin binding on 55 sheets of parchment describing the lineage of the Lords and Counts of Culemborg. The manuscript has two metal clasps and contains an allegorical title page (frontispiece), followed by a leaf with a coloured drawing of a man (herald) in a coat of arms. This is followed by 51 sheets, mostly one-sidedly signed and described, of men and women of the Culemborg family, beginning with Boudewijn van Kleef and ending with Margriet van Pallandt (1510-1593). The men and women are always depicted on two sheets facing each other, with the back of the sheets generally blank and occasionally inscribed with text. All drawings are colored and all drawings, both of men and women, show a person on a plinth holding a coat of arms, which rests on the plinth. The heads - although for the most part obviously not portraits - are remarkably precise and finely drawn. The clothing of the figures is exuberantly rendered in color. Striking here are the patterns and the rendering of the fabric, which make a 'flat' impression, and the often large headgear. The posture of the various figures is often lively. Below the plinth is always a handwritten commentary, which identifies the person and puts them in the genealogical line., draughtsman: Nicolaes de Kemp (attributed to), anonymous, draughtsman: Utrecht (possibly), Netherlands, Amsterdam, c. 1590, band: pigskin, writing (processes), painting, height 422 mm × width 312 mm × thickness 40 mm
