Insect Daimyo Procession, Brush and watercolor on silk with brocaded silk border, mounted on paper, Behind a flowering branch, growing obliquely in the upper right corner, a procession of insects moves across the panel, going toward the left. Composed chiefly of crickets and wasps, two of which bear leaves, as parasol of honor, and closed morning-glory bud, then come bearers of regalia, a tall pink on a slender stalk, and another long-stemmed flower. In the center, borne on a carrying pole by four insects, is a cricket cage, concealing some insects within it, with a Japanese knot, tasseled, securing it at top. A cockroach prostrates himself before this daimyo's litter. In the rear follow a beetle-like insect, riding the base of a cricket. Several more bearers of regalia, in the form of field grasses; and the procession is drawing by a wasp carrying seed-pods on shoulder poles., Japan, 19th century, Drawing, Drawing
