Johann Knapp, Maltese Melon, Watercolor, Total: Height: 36.00 cm; Width: 48.00 cm, Botanical drawings, Still life of flowers and fruits, Fruits, Fruit, Johann Knapp was employed at the Viennese court and drew the fruits and blossoms of the botanical garden at Schönbrunn Palace by order of Archduke Johann of Austria (1782-1859). These included both native alpine plants and imported exotic plants brought back from excursions by Austrian researchers. With great precision Knapp portrayed for example over 100 apple varieties, nearly 30 pumpkin species or also 73 different grapes. He built up an archive of watercolors, from which he made copies for his clients as needed.
