Kircher's late work includes the book Arca Noë, published in 1675 by Janssonius in Amsterdam, a richly illustrated folio with numerous copper plates and woodcuts by artists, presumably from the publisher's workshop. The interpretation of the biblical story of the Flood and the rescue of the living beings by Noah's Ark offers Kircher the opportunity for a detailed study of both the animal world and the construction of the ark, which Kircher reconstructs meticulously with mathematical calculations. The fold-out copper plate in the middle of the book shows an outline of the ark on three floors with the occupancy of the individual rooms on board.
