Kelmscott Press, Edward Burne-Jones, William Morris, Kelmscott Chaucer, paper, leather, letterpress, white pigskin binding on wooden covers with silver clasps, total (book cover): height: 43.40 cm; width: 28.80 cm, book illustrations, plant ornaments, Art Nouveau, The edition of Geoffrey Chaucer's works, which was published in folio format in 1896, is probably the most famous print of the Kelmscott Press and a monument to the new book art movement. This so-called 'Kelmscott Chaucer' is a lavishly designed work of book art, a true joint work on which several people worked together in a workshop community. William Morris, who selected the late medieval author Chaucer, a classic of English literature, created his own typeface for the text of this edition, the so-called 'Chaucer Type', which is based on the round gothic fonts of early prints. He also designed the borders and initials, and his student friend Edward Burne-Jones drew the illustrations to the text, which were executed in wood engraving
