Khoikhoi woman with infant, Black woman dressed in a labia. She has wrapped leather bands around her both shins to protect her from the sharp scrub. She wears a necklace with red beads on her wrist. On her back she wears an infant who drinks from her chest that she has slipped over her shoulder, a well-known western cliché. In her left hand she is holding a dripping piece of intestine. That referred to the Khoikhoi's habit of eating raw entrails. This drawing is copied to a print in Thomas Herbert, 'Some yeares travels into Africa and Asia the Great' (1634), Africans, Cape of Good Hope, anonymous, Netherlands (possibly), c. 1675 - c. 1725, paper, watercolor (paint), h 320 mm × w 200 mm
