On the left map a wild man sits on a rock with two burning torches in his hands. Next to him a putti on a fish with a coat of arms and a thunderbolt in his hand. On the other side smoking jars. On the right card, Fame is sitting on a rock. She is blowing a trumpet and holding the coat of arms of Charles Howard, the Lord High Admiral and commander-in-chief of the English fleet against the Spanish Armada. The cards are set within an ornamental frame. At the top of the frame is a coin with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, flanked by four putti. The coin to the left of this was struck in Zeeland and shows the Spanish ships in a storm with a sun breaking through. On the coin on the right four kneeling and praying figures. On the coat of arms, under the portrait of Elizabeth, hangs a chain with which the English queen keeps Pope Sixtus V, the Spanish king Philip II and Alessandro Farnese in check. The dark cloud with lightning makes it clear that the relationships are tense. The cartouche with their portraits and text in English and Latin, executed in auricular style, is flanked by two weeping putti and seascapes with ships sinking.
