The wood is stained black-brown. Remains of a red painting on the neck are preserved. The god Anubis, son of Osiris and Isis, could be represented as a wild dog or jackal. Anubis was the god of the necropolis and responsible for the ritual preparation of the body, especially the embalming, mouth opening and the burial ceremony. The god guided the deceased before Osiris, weighed the heart and led the dead into the afterlife.
