The Magnanimity of Seleucus The magnanimity of Zaleucus, Zaleucus is leaning to the right with its naked upper body leaning back slightly and balancing its right fist. His left arm is held with both hands by the young man who has sunk to one knee. On the left, diagonally behind him, is the executioner, who supports his head with one hand and sticks out his eye with the other. At Zaleucus' feet the fire pot, in which a pin is heated. On the far left, Zaleucus' son with folded hands sits on a raised bed with cushions, turning away from the middle group in despair. Behind this figure is a young man with folded hands and, partly in low relief, six male spectators, some of whom express their compassion through gestures. Two boys standing higher bend over Zaleucus and watch carefully, one hurts his arm around the other's shoulder. From the right comes a bearded old man with raised, folded hands. Acher this is just the profile of a youth visible. A dog runs forward from the right corner. More in the background stands high above all from the statue of Justitia (?), Dressed in a cloak, on the left is the vague outline of a temple, the judgment of Zaleucus: when Zaleucus's son is sentenced to be blinded in both eyes, Zaleucus has one of his son's eyes plucked out and one of his own, City Hall of Amsterdam (1655- 1808), Artus Quellinus (I) (workshop of), Nederlanden, c. 1651, terracotta (clay material), h 92.0 cm × w 69.5 cm × t 12.0 cm
