By means of two stories from Greek mythology, the victory of the United Netherlands under the leadership of Prince William over its enemies, as recorded in the Peace of Westminster on 19 February 1674, is glorified. Mercury and Jupiter point the Dutch Virgin with the cap of liberty to an open book of the Metamorphoses by Ovid, in which scenes from the stories of Apollo and Daphne and Neptune and Coronis can be seen. Below, the Dutch Lion chasing away the French rooster and an English dog.
