Northern Netherlands, Sheet with five medals in honor of the De Witt brothers, 1672, Sheet with the obverse and reverse sides of five medals made in honor of the brothers Johan and Cornelis de Witt, after their death on August 20, 1672. The sheet consists of three pieces of paper that are glued together. On the left are two medals, on the right three. The first The medal shows the brothers in profile, facing each other; on the reverse a beast with many heads symbolizes the people who mutilated the bodies. On the obverse of the second medal a prince in his triumphal chariot drawn by kings with above it a scene of the mutilation of the bodies. On the reverse a six-line verse signed JVR. The third medal shows the two brothers in profile, one behind the other; on the reverse two ships that are lost at sea. The fourth medal has the same portraits and an eight-line verse. The fifth medal also has the same portraits and an emblem of the corpses on the rocker, crowned by a winged hourglass and flanked by two mourning putti.
