C-painter, Siana bowl (outside: hunting scenes, inside: running Nike ), clay, quickly turned, painted (ceramic), alternately fired, clay, painted and fired, Total: Height: 12.5 cm; Diameter: 25.4 cm, ceramic, History of Nike, Middle Archaic, Greek antiquity, After an important finding place on the island of Rhodes this Attic bowl type is called Siana bowl. Siana bowls are characterized by an almost hemispherical body with a set-back lip, a high concave bowl base and slightly upward pointing handles. In this bowl, the foot is compact and the handles are almost horizontal. Foot and bowl underside are black varnished except for a recessed strip with four fine lines running around it. In addition, the inside of the hollow foot, the inside of the handles and a narrow stripe on the inside of the muzzle are left clayey. The inside of the bowl shows a discoloration in the left half, which is a burn defect. Inside the bowl there is a large medallion with a winged goddess in the knees to the right. She is clothed with a chiton; her hair is held together by a bandage. Whether it is the goddess of victory, Nike, or the goddess Eris cannot be decided with certainty, but it may be due to the figurative painting on the outside. The picture is framed in a circle by a stick frieze, two rows of dots and a series of fine lines. There are additional colors on both the figure and the stick frieze. The painting of the outside is divided into two friezes. On side A a boar storms to the right, which is approached from both sides by a rider armed with a spear. In the upper register a dog chases a hare to the right. Side B shows three riders moving quickly to the left. Above them two grazing roe deer are to be seen, facing each other. Also on the outside there are red and white additional colors.
