(38.1 cm), Metalwork-Gilt Bronze, King Philip II (r. 1556–98) lent his name to the Severe (Philip II) style, which was heavily influenced by his patronage and associated with the construction of the Escorial. The style was introduced into the design of Spanish metalwork in the last quarter of the sixteenth century and flourished throughout the reigns of his next two successors
