According to the accompanying text, the woman on the left (pl. 1) is dressed in a purple satin caraco with green dots, a white gaze fichu and a blue and white scarf that ends in a belt. (jupe pareil au caraco) On her head a hat of white felt with blue dots in the shape of a high tapering cylinder. (This shape is said to have been invented by the Flemish in the 17th century and adopted by the English and French). The woman on the right (pl.2) wears a white satin pelisse, lined with fur over a satin dress (jupe pareil a la robe) Red cylindrical bonnet with white bow on the head. 'Chignon en poire'.
