This is followed by a page with an (unwritten) index of names. The album contains 19 insert sheets with gold on cut. Containing a total of 123 cartes-de-visite, one of which is loose in a sleeve. The album was bought empty by collector L.J. Hartkamp and filled with cartes-de-visite by him. For most of them he has written the name of the photographer on the insert, as well as personalia, functions and family relationships of the depicted person. These are cartes-de-visite (often after a print) of members of French, German, Belgian and Dutch royal houses and European politicians such as Bismarck, Gladstone and Garibaldi.
