Portrait of Christopher van Brants with dedication, Allegorical portrait of the Lutheran merchant Christopher van Brants, who was elevated to the Russian nobility in 1717 by Tsar Peter the Great and appointed Russian ambassador to Amsterdam. His portrait stands against an obelisk in a garden, flanked by Mercury and Neptune. His coat of arms is at the top of the obelisk. Below the portrait a sailing ship at sea and two children with a map. This includes the assignment addressed to him by Simon Schijnvoet. Along the sides are views of the garden designed by Schijnvoet of his country estate 'Petersburg' on the Vecht.
