The portrait head is made of Cypriot limestone, and was originally part of a standing, male figure of life size. Such images have been found at ancient sanctuaries in Cyprus and are generally interpreted as votive gifts. The full, square beard is modeled in a symmetrical wave pattern, in contrast to the mustache, which consists of thin parallel lines. Around the mouth there is a slight smile, which is borrowed from the Greek art of the archaic period (6th century BC). The nose is straight, the eyebrows bent and provided with a sharp profile. The eyes are almond-shaped. Over the hair is a large leaf wreath, which at the top consists of a row of oak leaves and hanging acorns at the bottom., Portrait head, limestone, H. 34 cm, 5th century BC. 460-450 BC, Cyprus
