A frame of grotesques with acanthus rinceaux, bird heads, masks, and dogs. At the bottom, two figures with bodies terminating in acanthus leaves, representing Time and Minerva. The left figure, an older man, holds a scroll with a cipher, assisted by a winged child. The right figure wears antique style armor and holds a shield with a coat-of-arms, assisted by the half figure of a putto. At bottom center, an hourglass and owl perched on a flower. At center, the portrait of a man with long hair, seated at a ledge with paper and pen before him.
