Prayer nut, Prayer Nut in Original Casing, with Box and Magnifying Glass, A small silver-coated prayer nut consisting of two miniature reliefs of the Adoration of the Kings and the Nativity. Both reliefs are made of boxwood and mounted in two hinged, silver half balls with closure and a small chain. The silver ball is entirely decorated with extremely refined Gothic engraving: on the one hand animals between leaves (a monkey, a dog, an owl and other birds), and on the other five figures: Eva, a man who scoops the ground with a shovel, a man a falcon, a man standing in the water and a man with a poker and fire. They are representations of the Four Elements (earth, air, water and fire) and possibly also different social positions. The animals represent the 'inverted world' of lust and evil. The silver ball is adorned with a twisted wire of pale gold, while there is a gold rosette on the top and bottom. This silver prayer note comes with an 18th-century box covered with red leather and an accompanying handwritten description that tells how small the note is and what can be seen in it., Adam Dircksz (workshop of), c. 1500 - c. 1530 and/or 1700 - 1799, gebedsnoot, doos, inlegvel, engraving, d 4.8 cm h 8.2 cm × w 7.5 cm
