This print was used to illustrate two different biblical scenes. Firstly, 'Abraham leaves for Shechem'. Abraham is looking at an angel who has appeared in heaven. The angel shows him the way to the city of Shechem, in the area of Canaan. Abraham is surrounded by shepherds and a shepherdess milking a sheep. In the background of the hilly landscape there is a village and some shepherds take care of their cattle. Secondly, the print has been used to illustrate the subject 'The proclamation to the shepherds'.
