Siege of Saint Martin on the Île de Ré, July-November 1627, Obsidio arcis Sammartinianae (title on object), Print, consisting of 16 sheets, of the siege of the citadel of Saint Martin on the Île de Ré in 1627, which was carried out by English troops under the Duke of Buckingham and was ended by French troops under Cardinal Richelieu. The centerpiece is a cartographic representation of the island off the French coast, on and around which it is teeming with army troops and ships. Above and below this central map two 'bands' with coats of arms, portraits and cartouches with episodes from the battle for Saint Martin.
