Snuffbox in the form of an apple, ca. 1740–50, German, Meissen, Hard-paste porcelain, gilt metal, 2 1/4 × 2 9/16 in. (5.7 × 6.5 cm), Ceramics-Porcelain, Meissen boxes in the form of fruits were made in very limited quantity between 1740 and 1750 (the date of this one), and the finest of them were mounted in gold and painted with miniatures.
