Spice box, 1730–35, German, Meissen, Hard-paste porcelain, silver, Overall: 2 1/4 × 4 1/2 × 3 1/8 in. (5.7 × 11.4 × 7.9 cm), Ceramics-Porcelain, Divided into three compartments, this octagonal box was meant to hold spices, possibly pepper, cloves, and nutmeg. It is decorated with the colors and motifs of Japanese Kakiemon porcelain.
