Standing in the middle of the Forum Ruins, Bartolomeo Pinelli, 1781-1835, 1818, Graphic Art, Aquatint, Bartolomeo Pinelli is a modern-day spectator looking upon the cultural heritage of Rome, surrounded by the famous ruins of the Colosseum and the Forum Romanum, where a procession of monks can be seen. The text on the title page also informs us that the goddess Roma stands before him in all her majestic glory and dignity. Roma is unarmed, but wears a helmet and carries a shield. The motif adorning the shield, showing a wolf with two children, is a representation of the myth of King Romulus and his brother Remus, whom tradition proclaims the founders of Rome.
