Statuette of a female panther, bronze, cast, bronze, full casting, Total: Height: 4.8 cm; Width: 6.8 cm, small sculptures, animals, early hellenistic, The female panther or better leopard is depicted at the moment when she looks up from her prey to defend herself against an enemy attack. So there was a second animal belonging to this group. The front-thighs formerly lying on the loot-animal are rounded at its underside. The left hind leg was braced against the loot, as it can be clearly read from the tension of the paw muscles. The stand-angle is given by the right hind paw, that is worked flat as stand-area. Due to its high quality and rarity - similar small animal bronzes are almost exclusively of imperial age - this object occupies an important position in the history of Hellenistic small sculpture.
