Surrender of Ghent, 1709, Ubergab Der Flandrischen Haupt Statt Gent an die Hohe Alliirte (title on object), Capture of Ghent by the Allies, the city surrendered on December 30, 1708, final agreement reached on January 12, 1709. The central scene of offering the keys to the city encased in a richly decorated ornamental frame with a cartouche at the top with a map of the city. Here is an eagle with a shield with the monogram CR (Carolus Rex) of Charles III. At the bottom a cartouche with the description of the events in German, on the right river gods, on the left the city virgin with the Dutch (Flemish?) Lion.
