However, the print was originally intended as a title page for a bound atlas with maps of Friesland, so part of the following description relates to that context. On the pedestal in the middle stands the personification of cartography, with a globe in her hand that she measures with a compass. A sheet with the handwritten part of the atlas (originally a map of Friesland) rests on her thigh. At her feet is a measuring chain, a round surveying instrument and a portrait of William IV of Orange-Nassau. Below that is the handwritten title of this part of the atlas. She keeps a watchful eye on Wispelturigheid (Wispeltuer), bottom left. Originally he represents the fickleness that the Frisian country had to adapt to: a forest could suddenly be flooded, because his body is melted by the salty water of the sea. At the top left of his head is a coat of arms with the coat of arms of Friesland (with diagonal bars and pompeblêden).
