According to Eugen von Mercklin, the archaic type of Athena gives a clue to the dating: It can be found in this form on the alliance coins of the Thessalian Confederation in the first half of the 2nd century BC (since 196 BC). Harls Bloesch referred to the hardly distinguishable depictions on coins of Antigonos Gonatas from 277 and 239 BC.
