Vase, ca. 1892, Made in Trenton, New Jersey, United States, American, Porcelain, H. 7 1/2 in. (19.1 cm), Ceramics, Walter Scott Lenox left Willets in 1889 to found the Ceramic Art Company, later Lenox China. Production of art porcelain was the company’s sole aim. In a departure from the firm’s characteristic decoration in enamels and raised gold paste, the decorator Kate Sears, about whom little is known, painstakingly carved delicate vignettes on the sides of porcelain vessels such as this vase, with its nymphs in petal skirts personifying flowers
