Vase (Tête de monstre japonais), Vase of smoke-colored and brown glass with a flat bottom with ground pontil mark. The convex body has the shape of a Japanese monster or lion's head, a so-called 'Tête de Monstre Japonnais', the open mouth of which forms the opening of the vase. Brown cloud-like motifs were blown along in various places. The nose, ears and eyes are cut in high relief. The moons are engraved with the wheel in stylized spirals and straight lines. The lips of the mouth are painted in brown enamel and gold with a stylized leaf tendon in it. On the left cheek of the head an engraved and gilded grasshopper with lower left in Japanising letters in wheel engraving, below each other the monogram EG (Émile Gallé) with in between the Lorraine cross, monsters, animals in general (or undetermined child), Émile Gallé, 1876, glass, gilding (material), gilding, h 12.7 cm × w 13.6 cm × d 13.3 cm d 9.5 cm
