Venus and Adonis, On a projecting ground lies on the left the dying Adonis with the upper body against an elevation in front of a tree, of which only the trunk and a small part of the crown is shown. The head falling backwards with the mouth open is turned towards the viewer, the right arm hangs limply down, the left hand is in the lap. Venus, rushing in from the right, holds out the right hand in front of him and the left hand with his fingers spread backwards downwards. Behind her a winged Amor descends from the clouds, pressing his fists against the face, weeping. Behind Venus a wild boar in profile to the right. Adonis, lying on bow and arrow, is dressed in a shirt with folded sleeves, which is gathered around the waist, and has a cloak on which it lies and part of which runs over the left shoulder and arm. From the right shoulder, the strap of the tube with arrows, of which only the upper part is visible, slides to the right, stick their feet in sandals. Venus' hair, braided at the temples, is held together in a bun on the head. She is almost naked, the mantle fluttering on her back runs over both arms and covers the lap., Venus mourning Adonis, Francis van Bossuit, Amsterdam, c. 1685 - c. 1692, ivory, h 18.1 cm × w 12.5 cm × t 3.0 cm
